This report explores Mbale’s food system, and delves into the significant challenges in food governance amidst rapid urbanisation in Africa. The report aims to address these challenges to enhance food and nutrition security, yield positive climate and environmental outcomes, and build social and ecological resilience in Mbale. The Mbale city food systems research emerged from the need to fill knowledge gaps regarding the state of food and urban systems, address systemic causes of food insecurity and environmental impact, and generate actionable insights. This study provides scientific evidence to inform transformative actions for urban food systems.
