This report explores Cape Town’s food system, and redefines the role of food in urban planning for Cape Town. Through integrating diverse aspects such as health, socio-economics, and infrastructure, this review challenges the traditional views that isolate food systems from other city functions. The report seeks to highlight the critical intersections between food and urban systems. It offers a comprehensive foundation for understanding the complexities of Cape Town’s food system while addressing urgent issues like food insecurity and undernutrition. Most importantly, it lays the groundwork for future in-depth explorations and transformative urban food policies.
