Food Systems at risk: new trends and challenges.
An analytical framework of the main drivers which might influence the occurrence of food crises and their trends in Low-Income and Lower Middle-Income countries.
Summary
The first section provides the framework of what comprises a food system, its drivers and outcomes, and how the main drivers have changed in past decades and are expected to change in coming years. Section 2 deals with the interactions between food systems and climate change, including their contributions and one specific consequence. Section 3 deals with the environmental consequences of existing food systems: over-exploitation of natural resources, irreversible biodiversity loss and pollution of water, air and soil. Section 4 considers the social and economic dimensions of food systems. Finally, Section 5 concerns food and nutrition security, an outcome determined by three other food system
outcomes (environmental, social and economic).
